3 May 2016:

The Public Education Foundation is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Kaye.

John was a man of great principle and integrity, and a tireless campaigner for public education. Many will remember his campaign to stop the sale of Oatley College to private interests; that is just one of his legacies.

In the NSW Parliament John was a negotiator par excellence, and at the same time deeply principled and honourable.

John was a fine man and will be sorely missed. The world is a better place for him having been here, and is poorer for his passing.

The Public Education Foundation extends its deepest sympathies to John’s family and loved ones.

Vale John Kaye.
