The Public Education Foundation welcomes David Hetherington as its new Executive Director, commencing in the role on Monday 31 October 2016.

Mr Hetherington has extensive public policy and private sector experience. He was founding Executive Director of Per Capita, a leading progressive think tank, has previously worked at the Institute for Public Policy Research in London and for L.E.K. Consulting, a global strategy consulting firm.

“We are very fortunate to have David join the Public Education Foundation team and look forward to working with him as the Foundation continues to deliver a great range of scholarships and advocate for excellence in public education,” Michelle Stanhope, General Manager of the Foundation, said.

Mr Hetherington, a prominent writer and commentator on a range of social and policy issues, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to work with the Public Education Foundation to support public education. It’s only through equity in education that we can excel as a nation.”

“David’s appointment comes at an exciting time. The role of the Public Education Foundation is all the more vital given the educational, social and economic challenges confronting many students. David’s experience will contribute significantly to strengthening and expanding on the work of the Foundation,” Chair of the Public Education Foundation Board, Mr Chris Ryan, said.

Mr Hetherington will continue to contribute to Per Capita’s research program as a Director and Senior Fellow. He will also continue as Chair of the People’s Inquiry into Privatisation which will conclude in early 2017.

The Public Education Foundation was launched in March 2008. A registered charity, the Foundation works in collaboration with the schools, communities, business and both the state and federal Department of Education to provide equity and excellence scholarships for students in public education; provide professional learning and leadership scholarships for teachers and principals; and enhance the value and reputation of public education.
